Armed robbers yesterday took away millions of naira in an afternoon raid at the popular Kantin Kwari textile market in Kano.
The robbers, numbering six, invaded a shop along IBB Way around 2.30pm,
as money was being counted, taking away three ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags
containing large sums, N/E learnt.
According to the police, the robbers snatched a Honda Accord car and fired shots into the air before escaping.
Kano police command spokesperson DSP Rilwan Muhammad Dutse said the robbers exchanged fire with the police before they fled.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Kantin Kwari market association, Alhaji Liti
Kulkul, said the daylight robbery had created fears among the traders.
Kulkul, who said the robbed amount was yet to be ascertained, added that
the attack was similar to the one carried out last year by gunmen where
some people were killed.
